The Sparks acquired De’Arika Hamby from the Aces for the rights to Amanda Zahui B.

Las Vegas Aces Saturday Traded Dearica Hamby to the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday, removing a key player from the Aces’ 2022 WNBA championship team, who signed a contract extension through 2024.

Hamby in the year After being drafted out of Wake Forest in 2015, she has spent her entire career with the Las Vegas Aces/San Antonio Stars organization and has been an All-Star the past two seasons. She was named the WNBA Woman of the Year in 2019 and 2020.

She averaged 9.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 85 starts.

“Dearica has dedicated eight years of her career to this organization, and has been instrumental in our success since the team’s move to Las Vegas,” Aces general manager Natalie Williams said in a statement. “We will miss her as a teammate, and are grateful for all of her contributions to the Aces over the years.”

“Adding Dearic to our roster and future first round pick was a solid move for us. We are excited to make another key position as we begin free agency,” said Sparks General Manager Karen Bryant.

In June, the Aces announced that they had signed Hamby to a two-year contract extension. But this week, when Hamby — who announced she was pregnant at the Aces’ victory show — showed signs that something might be amiss, she tweeted, “As a woman expressing your fears and being pregnant in this profession/world. Then to be sure that you are supported.. and your back was “was” … then it can be used against you.

The Sparks — who have a new coach in Curt Miller and GM in Bryant — made a big move this offseason via trade, bringing in veteran point guard Jasmine Thomas from Connecticut this week.
