The Eagles’ Nick Siriani fired back at Jonathan Gannon’s critics

Nick Siriani can set the alarm as early as Monday morning.

He couldn’t wait.

That’s when he calls into the WIP Morning Show and fires anyone quick to criticize longtime host Angelo Cataldi and, this season, defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

“Man, what did they score? 7. Yeah, big time,” Siriani said after the Eagles’ 38-7 rout of the Giants in the divisional round. “Jonathan Gannon puts these guys in great positions. We obviously have good players. Sometimes I have to hear some things about Jonathan Gannon, and I don’t know if it’s you. It could be a lot of other people. I’m not going to name names – Angelo – right?

But this guy is an incredible facilitator. The lack of respect from our radio station blows my mind. It blows my mind.

The Eagles’ defense was good Saturday night.

After a close first half, the Giants finally got on the scoreboard with a touchdown in the third quarter, but lost 6:01 in the process. With a comfortable lead at that point, Gannon was probably more than happy to trade time for seven points in the wind.

Gannon has received so much criticism in his two years as defensive coordinator here — from Cataldi alone — that it’s hard to argue with the results or how they were achieved Saturday night.

The Eagles held the Giants to just 227 total yards. They made Daniel Jones’ quarter night a living hell. And they never let the Giants think they had a chance to win that game.

In the regular season, the Eagles ranked no. The league’s No. 2 defense has given up 301.5 yards per game.

Siriani didn’t really hear Ganon’s criticism until the Eagles’ PR staff presented it to him as they prepared him for interviews.

“So every time I hear about Jonathan Gannon’s answer, I laugh to myself,” Siriani said. “Honestly, do other teams’ coaches feel bad for Jonathan Gannon here? I am yes in a way. Just like this guy is unbelievable.

In what he does, he becomes a head football coach in the National Football League. This guy is a stick. He is a stick. I can’t wait to talk to Angelo on Monday.”
