Fight world reacts after UFC 283: Jamal Hill wins light heavyweight championship, Glover Teixeira retires.

After UFC fighter Jamal Hill defeated Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 on Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro to capture the light heavyweight championship and secure his spot at the top of the division, the fight world reacted quickly.

The challenger’s one-sided victory was no surprise that night, as the former champion dropped the gloves in the Octagon, marking his retirement from the sport.

UFC #5 middleweight Derek Brunson tweeted: “Glover had a fantastic career and has nothing to prove.”

“Thank you @gloverteixeira,” former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping said on Twitter. “A Tale Told by an Individual.”

“Unbelievable career @gloverteixeira,” UFC lightweight Anthony “Showtime” Pettis added, Teixeria “a true legend.”

Hill’s impressiveness was on full display in the five round contest as the new belt holder won a unanimous decision over Teixeira.

The teary-eyed new champion hugged his trainers after the bout to celebrate the biggest fight of his career.

Hill has received his own accolades from former UFC champions Jon Jones and Justin Gaethje, among others.

Teixeira and Hill won the fight of the night.

Teixeira stayed in the contest until the final bell, but failed to win his first championship at UFC 267. .

After the fight, the Brazilian veteran said that his strength carried him to the end, but he could not “go on anymore”.

“Honestly though, I think I’m too tough for my own good,” Teixeira explained in the middle of the Octagon. “I can’t go on anymore. I’m concentrating my energy [middleweight champ] Alex Pereira. He will keep the belt for a while and move to lightweight. It is an honor to lay down the gloves on the same night as the Shogun.

Mauricio “Shogen” Rua, also a Brazilian veteran and former light heavyweight champion, retired earlier in the evening following a loss to Ihor Potieria.

Teixeira is widely recognized as a sports legend and retired with a 16-7 record in the UFC.

His record includes wins over former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions Jan Blachowicz, Rashad Evans, Quinton Jackson, as well as Ryan Bader in various divisions for the Belter title.

Also at UFC 283, Moreno defended his flyweight belt with a stoppage between the third and fourth rounds, and welterweight Gilbert Burns earned a decisive submission victory over Neil “The Haitian Sensation” Magny.
