Eagles won’t open practice window for Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

The Eagles began practice Wednesday without opening the practice window for safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, which would seem to indicate he won’t be able to play Sunday.

Gardner-Johnson won on injured reserve in December. 3 after suffering a damaged kidney during the Eagles’ win over the Packers on Nov. 3. 27.

After missing the required four games — the Titans, Giants, Bears and Cowboys — Gardner-Johnson is now eligible to be active. The Eagles will face their former team, the Saints, at the Link Sunday and the no. 1 seed in the NFC playoff bracket and a 1st-round bye with a win.

But as practice began at 1:45 p.m., the club made no move to open Gardner-Johnson’s 21-day practice window. Opening the practice window would allow him to join the team and give the Eagles 21 days to either activate him or place him on injured reserve, ending the season.

Jordan Davis and Avonte Maddox were able to play during the first week of practice. Dallas Goedert had to wait an extra week. But opening the practice window will show that at least one player is close to being able to play.

With all former players coming off IR, the Eagles opened the practice window in the week before Wednesday’s practice.

By not opening CJGJ’s practice window, it remains unclear when he will return. The Eagles finish the regular season against the Saints and Giants and open the postseason on a weekend in January. 14-16 if they are a wild card team or Jan. If you get number 21-22. 1 seed in the NFC.

It’s still conceivable — but not likely — that they could open the practice window this week and still bring him back for the Saints game.

The Eagles acquired Gardner-Johnson from the Saints in August. 30. He is in the final year of a four-year, $3.3 million rookie contract.

With Avonte Maddox now out indefinitely with a toe injury, the Eagles are missing two key defensive backs.

Undrafted rookie Reid Blankenship started at safety in Gardner-Johnson’s place and Josiah Scott remained Maddox’s replacement.

If the Eagles get Gardner-Johnson back, they can move him into Maddox’s slot and fill a void at safety. If not, they seem to have no choice but to continue playing Scott, who has struggled a lot during his time there.
