Charles Omenihu of the 49ers was arrested after a domestic dispute

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu was arrested Monday on suspicion of domestic abuse, according to a news release from the San Jose Police Department.

Omenihu was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail and released after posting bail. Omenihu was given a restraining order.

Police said a woman called at 4:39 p.m. that her boyfriend, identified as Omenihu, had pushed her to the ground after an argument. There were no visible injuries on the woman, who complained of pain in her arm but did not seek medical attention, police said.

The case will be presented to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

“We are aware of the issue with Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering more information,” the 49ers said in a statement.

Omenihu, 25, is a key member of the team’s defensive line rotation and has 4.5 sacks this season. He also had two sacks and a forced fumble in the 49ers’ 41-23 wild-card win over the Seattle Seahawks. He played 15 times in the 49ers’ 19-12 division win over the Dallas Cowboys and injured his hamstring but was able to return to the game.

The 49ers will visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game.
