Boxer Gervonta Davis was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Parkland, Florida for punching a woman in the head, according to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger.
Davis was arrested Tuesday after allegedly hitting a woman in the head with a “closed-hand style slap” just before 3 p.m. The woman reportedly suffered a small bite on the inside of her upper lip.
The woman called police twice, according to ESPN, and “she said she had a child in the car and told dispatchers she could be heard pleading for help.” [Davis] He attacked me… he is going to kill me,” he said.
That initial call ended, but the woman was reportedly able to reconnect with police in less than a minute. She pressed the emergency button in her car and told the Mercedes-Benz emergency center that someone was “speeding at her”.
Davis is charged with battery causing bodily harm, a misdemeanor domestic violence charge. He was reportedly not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his arrest. Davis was released Wednesday afternoon after posting bail.
He denied the allegations on Twitter, but has since deleted the post.
“I will never lay a hand on my baby’s mother, my daughter’s daughter, you’re crazy!!” His Twitter handle said, via ESPN. “I’m not a monster. I’ve been quiet for so long… That’s all I’m doing now! Just to clear my name!”
Davis, 28, is a perfect 27-0 as a professional fighter. His next fight is scheduled for January. 7, when Davis Hector takes on Luis Garcia as the premier boxing champion in a pay-per-view event on Showtime. It’s unclear whether the alleged arrest will affect that fight. Showtime is looking into the incident, and Davis’ boxing promoter declined to comment to ESPN.
Davis’ career was marred by numerous arrests. In the year He was arrested for aggravated assault in 2017, although those charges were dismissed. The case was dismissed in December, meaning no punishment was handed down against Davis.
That same year, Davis was involved in a hit-and-run and was charged with fleeing the scene. Davis is scheduled to go on trial in February. In the year 16, 2023 A plea deal stemming from a hit-and-run arrest on Sept. was rejected.
